4Saxess, Slovenia’s leading saxophone quartet, features Andrej Omejc (soprano), Oskar Laznik (alto), Primož Fleischman (tenor), and Dejan Prešiček (baritone). Over fifteen years, the ensemble has built an international reputation, performing across Europe and the United States. A key focus of 4Saxess is commissioning new works and collaborating directly with composers. The quartet regularly appears at major festivals, including the Venice Biennale, World Music Days, Festival Ljubljana, and Tribuna Compositors Belgrade, and in prestigious concert halls in Paris, Berlin, Zagreb, Munich, Washington, New York, and Vienna. Its members are internationally recognized educators, frequently giving masterclasses at leading music universities. The quartet has released two acclaimed recordings with RTV Slovenia, 4 Folk and 4 US.
Currently, 4Saxess presents the programme Ljubljana – Vienna, exploring the musical connections between the two cities through selected works and featured guests. Joining the quartet are Austrian-based tenor and Carinthian Slovenian Gabriel Lipuš, soprano Mojca Bitenc of the Ljubljana Opera, and Petra Kovačič, a member of the Vienna Philharmonic. Kovačič performs Slovenian Folk Dances by Alojz Srebotnjak, and in the second half presents Styrian Dances by Joseph Lanner, highlighting motifs from both Austrian and Slovenian traditions.
The singers perform lieder by Josip Ipavec, often called the “Slovenian Mozart,” whose works are presented in both Slovenian and German, reflecting his Vienna-based education and bilingual compositions. 4Saxess opens and closes the concert with its own arrangements of Brahms’ Variations on a Haydn Theme and Benjamin Ipavec’s Serenade, creating an evening that celebrates the enduring dialogue between Slovenian and Austrian musical heritage.
